Kembers used to be my corner shop growing up. My Mum used to send me there at the age of about ten to buy her whiskey and fags! I hate to see it empty now. I drew it from the car, parked up opposite, going directly onto the paper in pen, then coloured it at home.

DANNY GREGORY UPSIDE DOWN PORTRAIT
I attempted to sketch an upside down portrait of Danny Gregory as illustrated on his website (http://dannygregory.com/). It's pretty bad, his nose is completely wrong! Still, it's a good exercise in quietening down the bad influence of my left brain.

COFFEE AND BURGERS
My sketch-a-day challenge continues. I'm still a little self-conscious about sketching in public especially in busy places like cafes and even sometimes when I get my sketchbook out in the car! Both were drawn on location in pen then coloured back home in pencil and watercolour.

GYPSY LAVINIA, BLACKPOOL
There is something fascinating about Blackpool out of season; in that dead zone between Christmas, New Year and Easter when the season starts up again. The shutters come down on the town as it shelters from the winter storms that batter the Fylde Coast, this year more than most so far. I kind of feel like the kids in Scooby Doo looking round the abandoned theme park.
Dotted along the famous Golden Mile are these timber shacks built on the forecourts of a number of hotels on The Prom, mainly between South Shore and the Pleasure Beach. They house anything from burger bars to fortune tellers; for some reason I was drawn to this one so I took a photo in the rain and sketched and coloured it back at home. I hope to do a few more soon.

BREAK UP
Inspired by an artists work that I saw on Facebook, I tried to place randon thoughts about a break up onto the page and see what happens. I'll have to try and remember the guys name and credit him with the idea.

SKETCH A DAY PROJECT 2012
I've decided to see if I have the discipline and creative juice to sketch one drawing a day. It doesn't sound like much but try and have a go yourself. They might not all be pretty but my goal is to get myself drawing and improving. As Danny Gregory says "EVERYDAY MATTERS!"
